Semester Recap

Well the semester is one final away from being done for me. This semester was very eye opening to me and I'm glad I finally have some sort of direction for the future. Before this semester I had no idea what I was going to do with my life, I am still not 100% what I would like to do but I know I want to do something to do with a television operations set. Thanks to signing up for COMM100 I was forced to join COMM120 and this is the class that really made me realize, "This is what I want to do." While this semester wasn't my most successful semester of my 3 semesters at TC3 I am still pleased with this semester because I now have some direction to my future. My instructors were some of the most eye opening instructors I could have ever asked for. Well, see everyone next semester have a good break and enjoy it.

Joe Klein's Trip

Joe Klein’s article about his road trip from New York City to Los Angeles is a very eye opening article in which Klein expresses his opinions on the truth about politics. Klein is the kind of guy that will tell everything how he views it, he thinks with reasoning. His reason for this trip was to prove to everyone that just because they see/hear something on TV that is positive about our economy/politics doesn’t mean that everything is happy happy joy joy. Kleins methods in attempt to get his point across to us Americans is unbelievably different than that of other journalists, he straight up tells it how it is.

His view on politics is one of the reasons why he can strongly influence people to believe what he is sharing with all of us. He proves that just because we hear something on the TV about,”Hey if you vote for me I promise that the economy will eventually be better than it is” by no means should anyone believe that. Klein’s main use of making controversy is over the latest presidential election. When Obama was elected, all of the Americans who wanted and voted for Obama to be president were very pleased that he had won, and a couple months later everyone was displeased with what he has done as a president. Goes to show that most people get hyped up over what politics say in commercials and debates before they can even do anything about what they are saying they will do. One of Klein’s main points in this article and trip is to show that this often happens more than most people notice. Almost every election ends up the same way and us as Americans need to realize that and to dig deeper than the sound bites when it comes to any kind of election.

Weekly Recap #?

This week was alright. Happy about the little break from school I am receiving. Not so happy that I have to work on everyday of the break besides Monday. School was pretty slow this week as my teacher(Chrissy) was gone from classes for this week and other classes assignments were due that I already had done. Getting work done before the last minute is a very relieving thing and I'm gonna try to get work done ahead of time instead of using the last minute approach. Still not the best at managing school, work, and personal life but I'm better at it than I was at the beginning of the year. Well not much more to say so I'm going to end here.

Weekly Recap

This week seemed longer than other weeks for some reason, maybe for the fact that I was/am sick. Anyways, school on Monday was just a boring day as I did nothing but go to class. Tuesday was a lot better even though I was still feeling under the weather it was a lot better and COMM120 was fun like usual. Wednesday was worst as it was the middle of the week and I missed a class due to being ill and had to work a 6 hour shift that night feeling horrible. Thursday was a lot better, seems to me that getting some sleep was the key to feeling a little bit better. Started getting into the introduction of making our website in COMM100 and it's gonna be a really fun project in my eyes, minus all the coding but we'll see how it goes when it's time to do that. COMM120 was really fun and amusing, I actually enjoyed learning all about lighting and what not. Friday was just another day, spent an unusual amount of time doing homework for a first getting caught up for English. Well that's how my week was, not bad at all but could have been better. Now it's time to work a 13-hour work shift on Saturday and work again on Sunday. Goodbye.

EDIT: Looking back over this, this is probably the worst weekly recap ever.

Young Genius's

After reading all about how teenagers are making inventions that are changing the world I realize that the youth really is our future. I believe that Nolan Kamitaki has invented one of the most technological advances the world has to see. While all the teens in this reading have invented things I could never even imagine being real, I feel that Nolan Kamitaki's invention can really have a impact on the world. His invention of computer software that can predict how flu's can spread through a town. He had this idea when H1N1 was spreading like peanut butter gets spread on bread. He had the idea of creating software that can predict how flu's can spread through a town when he saw the perfect opportunity to introduce to the world a computer model to simulate the spread of H1N1. I feel that Nolan Kamitaki's invention of software to simulate the spread of a flu will be extremely helpful if the world ever has another huge breakout of another nasty flu similar to H1N1.

At the same time I believe that Hari Rallapalli also has a very very impressive invention that can detect tumors in a human. He was inspired to create such a machine because of the fact that he was frustrated by watching his aunt and a close friend struggle with cancer. He devised a cell tracker using a glowing protein extracted from jellyfish to make his tumor detector work the way he wanted it to. At the same time he invented a $400 microscope that can view glowing cells within a human being. After research I realized that Rallapalli won a $10,000 scholarship award for his invention. Youth's are really changing the way our future is going to be.

TV Will Save the World

The article "TV Will Save the World," by Charles Kenny is a very interesting article that touches base with how TV is the next big thing in poorer countries. Kenny talks about how in 1995, 45% of the population of a poorer country had a TV and by 2005 it showed that more than 60% of the population had a TV. While it may look like it isn't that big of an improvement, but really it is. I feel that this a good thing to be happening to all the countries who some have never seen a TV before. This way when every household has a TV it will be a lot easier and more convenient to those who have never had a TV before to realize how important and helpful media really is. Most Americans have at least one television in their household and since TV has been invented technology has been getting more advanced each and every day it seems like. Kenny also talks about how TV has made those in poorer countries more intelligent. He says that within six months of individuals watching TV for the first time, they had noticed a small but significant improvement in their reading skills. While TV is associated with violence it is having a positive impact on the lives of billions world-wide.

Weekly Recap #2

The second full week off college is finally done. This week seemed to drag a lot longer than the first week had even considering the fact that Monday was labor day. This week I've learned that I NEED to stop putting assignments off until the last minute. Doing assignments last night does nothing but stress anyone's brain! I'm sure most people know this by now but I for some reason can't get this through my head. Once again, sleep is more important than we think. Not getting enough sleep can cause laziness and bad fatigue. There are many bad habits that I need to break and stop repeating even when I know I have them! Weekend begin.
